To be legally titled an imported vehicle, it must conform to the Department of Transportation's (DOT) and Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) regulations. Particularly the DOT standards, motor vehicles not more than 25 years of age conform to safety and bumper standards and that the manufacturer of each automobile must place an identification label to each vehicle that indicates that it is in compliance with these requirements.

 

 

 

 

Furthermore, EPA regulations require that all vehicles meet air pollution emissions standards. If a nonresident wants to import a car which does not meet the standards, they must to submit EPA form HS-7 and Motor Vehicle Law DOT form 3520-1 along with CBP to obtain prior approval from EPA.

 

 

 

 

Imported Vehicles for Racing

They must present EPA forms AP3520-1 and DOT 7 upon entry.

 

 

 

 

Imported vehicles used for touring are also subjected to Customs duty of 40% and 10% VAT, as well being subject to an ad valorem rate that can range from 15% up to 100% based on the piston displacement.
